Vanilla doesn’t just grow... it needs love. One flower at a time.

Did you know that outside of its native home (Mexico), vanilla orchids don’t have natural pollinators like the Melipona bee. If you plan on cultivating vanilla beans, you have to play matchmaker yourself — with your hands, eyes, and a lot of patience.

Timing is Everything
⏳Vanilla flowers bloom just for a single day, usually early morning.
- If not hand pollinated within 8–12 hours, the flower will wilt and drop.

Tips for Beginners:
🌸Start small: Try with a few vines and get comfortable with the process.
☀️Grow in warm, humid environments (ideally above 60% humidity).
🌸Vanilla is an orchid. It loves indirect sunlight and climbing support (like trees, poles, or coffee plants).

Intercropping Benefits
☀️Vanilla loves filtered light, and coffee plants offer the perfect dappled shade. The two thrive together — one climbing, one grounding.

☀️Intercropping brings balance. More plant variety = richer soil, fewer pests, and a healthier ecosystem.

Season of Red

Pigments called anthocyanins and carotenoids (like lycopene) which reflect red wavelengths of light when present in the fruit’s skin give it the colour red. Think cherry, tomatoes, coffee, strawberries 🍓 🍒

These pigments are produced by the plant as it ripens, acting as a visual signal to animals to eat the fruit and disperse its seeds

🐍Behaviour - Although it is a slow mover, it is capable of fast strikes. Irritable disposition, will vibrate it’s tail when threatened

The last two nights we did have heavy rains as an effect of cyclone Fengal, the weather was in stark contrast to what winter looks like here. One could wake up and think the calendar wound back to July.

Luckily, the sun came out this evening and warmed up are moods, we caught up for some planning and prep for December and brewed a delicious cup @sara.alkhooori lovely coffee and loved😍your packaging too!
