Season of Red

Pigments called anthocyanins and carotenoids (like lycopene) which reflect red wavelengths of light when present in the fruit’s skin give it the colour red. Think cherry, tomatoes, coffee, strawberries 🍓 🍒

These pigments are produced by the plant as it ripens, acting as a visual signal to animals to eat the fruit and disperse its seeds

As the name indicates— pud (new) ari (rice)—it welcomes the new rice crop in late November or early December with widespread community celebrations, gatherings, dances and songs.”

Hypnale hypnale ( Hump nosed viper) is active during early morning and night.

🐍Behaviour - Although it is a slow mover, it is capable of fast strikes. Irritable disposition, will vibrate it’s tail when threatened

The last two nights we did have heavy rains as an effect of cyclone Fengal, the weather was in stark contrast to what winter looks like here. One could wake up and think the calendar wound back to July.

Luckily, the sun came out this evening and warmed up are moods, we caught up for some planning and prep for December and brewed a delicious cup @sara.alkhooori lovely coffee and loved😍your packaging too!

November - wrapping up pruning and clearing spaces to make do for all the movement to happen for cherry picking

Harvest Season is here and the whole town can sense a certain urgency in everyone’s footsteps. Jeeps are bustling around at the crack of dawn and trailing back home late evening. The signs are showing, only a matter of days before the whole coffee community here is going to be completely preoccupied with picking, carting, weighing and drying (processing) coffee cherries

The harvest season is equal parts exciting and arduous, praying the weather shines on our side!

So proud to see him conquering milestones in the Coffee space, a world which he just discovered, spreading smiles with every cup which earned him a 🏆🥇too! @CoorgChapter IFCC2024

He stood first out of 20 participants, showcasing his talent before eminent people in the fraternity, competing against professional baristas, gaining huge applause for his confidence and cheerful demeanour throughout the performance. He had the whole audience’s attention from the go!

Remember, when the October break came to an end and we had to return home from Avva’s (grandma) house… 👵🏻

We would have 10x more bags than what we packed for the holidays. Every corner and pocket stuffed with old Shakti paper made into packaging for all the bottles of honey, jams, ghee, pickles etc to take back home, to gift neighbors, friends, cousins and relatives, sometimes a carton full for the family weddings … 🎁

Those bottles may still be around, holding much more stories of being passed on from what started of as Avva’s gifts made from her backyard.

It’s the same feeling we get when we bottle these Jars of Love ❤️ 💛
